NEW WINES TO BENEFIT BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY FOUNDATION
Meadows of Dan, VA – Chateau Morrisette is helping the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, the fundraising support organization for the Blue Ridge Parkway, to celebrate its 10th Anniversary by introducing its first new “Parkway” wines ever. “Chateau Morrisette believes in the mission of the Foundation to provide private support for vital enhancement projects on the Parkway that would otherwise go unfunded and is pleased to partner with the Foundation to introduce these new signature wines,” remarked David Morrisette. Château Morrisette will share a percentage of gross adjusted sales with the non-profit Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation as part of the Foundation’s licensing programs. “The Blue Ridge Parkway is a unique national park that deserves our stewardship,” continued Morrisette. “Not only does it grant us tremendous aesthetic satisfaction, it brings millions of visitors to our region—we are happy to give back by supporting the vision of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.” The Foundation recently awarded a $100,000 grant to the National Park Service for Parkway rangers to conduct educational outreach programs for students in communities along its 469-mile scenic corridor. The “Parks as Classrooms” program serves local schools in the counties that border the parkway in North Carolina and Virginia. In addition to funding educational outreach, the Foundation has provided over $1.2M in philanthropic funds for preserving the Parkway’s scenic quality, historic preservation, improvement of exhibits and visitor facilities, providing for scientific research, and satisfying other unmet needs of the Parkway beyond its base congressional operating budget. The new wines will be formally introduced at the October 13 Black Dog Beach Music and Wine Festival at Chateau Morrisette near MP 171.5 on the Parkway. The new wines which will sell for about $12 are: Parkway Moonlight A refreshing blend of Traminette and Riesling, this dry white wine features lovely characteristics of grapefruit and melon, entrancing white flower aromas and a deliciously smooth finish. Parkway Sunrise Three of Virginia’s finest grape varieties, Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, are blended in this dry red wine. Deep aromas and rich flavors of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry and plum precede a long finish with hints of toast and spice. Established in 1980, Château Morrisette is one of the largest wineries in the mid-atlantic region. Open year round at Milepost 171.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Château Morrisette hosts more than 50,000 visitors annually at its winery, gift shop, summer concert venue and award-winning restaurant.
