Those who journeyed here as children years ago return now with children and grandchildren. For them the promise of the Parkway thrives not only in a quiet escape to natural splendor, but also in the joy of sharing a profound and unforgettable moment. For four days in May, families can have those unforgettable moments captured in photographs at Moses H. Cone Memorial Park in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Jonathan Burton Photography is scheduling photo sessions for Watauga, Ashe, and Avery county students between the ages of 5 and 18. Portraits will be taken from 4 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday -- May 21, 22, 23 and 24.
A portion of Burton’s sitting fees will be donated to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation which, among its programs and projects, provides support for the Blue Ridge Parkway’s educational outreach program, Parks As Classrooms (PAC). PAC is a program that reaches more than 39,000 schoolchildren in the twenty-nine counties that neighbor the Parkway. Through the program, National Park Service rangers introduce children to woods, streams and wildlife and share the history of the national parks. The Blue Ridge Parkway is the country’s most visited national park site and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation believes “the children of our community families are the future stewards of this great national treasure”.
