Flat Top Observation Tower

The Flat Top Mountain observation/fire tower located at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Park (Milepost 294) was designed and built by Moses Cone in 1901. The original tower was made of chestnut and in the 50's the structure was replaced by a modern galvanized frame and staircase. By the late 1990s, the wooden tread and platforms needed replacing and the frame needed to be repainted.

In 2001 the observation/fire tower restored by the Parkway's Preservation Workshop with funds from the Foundation.
