The best place in the world for a week long bike ride!
We did a seven day bicycle trip from North to South staying in motels. There were 15 people in our group: 13 cyclists and two SAG drivers for our vans. It was a geographically diverse group with riders from Canada, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina.
We had 2 days with about 25 miles of morning fog, some rain for about 10 of those miles on the first day with fog, and some very light sleet on Grandfather Mountain. The rest of the ride was picture perfect weather. And even though we saw sleet on the ground and ice cycles on rocks on the way up, and a rider who was a day ahead of us said it got down to 19 degrees over night on Mt. Mitchell; when we got to the top of Mt. Mitchell it was a rare almost perfect day: sunny and clear, about 60 degrees and almost no wind!
The Blue Ridge Parkway has to be one of the best places in the world to bike! Every long climb is rewarded with fantastic views. And where else can you ride for a week with very little traffic and without encountering any traffic lights or stop signs!
I will never forget this adventure and the friends I made along the way.
