North to South, by Motorcycle
I picked my wife up in Washington D.C. on Sunday, and after a couple of nights on Chincoteague, we headed inland, jumping on the Parkway at the North end, near Waynesboro, VA. This was my wife's first long trip on a motorcycle - until then her longest ride had been two hours! We spent 3 days slowly winding down the parkway, spending one night at the Bent Mountain Lodge Bed and Breakfast (HIGHLY recommended), and the second night with good friends in Asheville, NC. We encountered all kinds of interesting wildlife, and weather as well. It was cool that week, and we spent most of NC in the clouds. The Balsam Overlook, a traditional stop for photographing yourself at the highest point on the parkway, was totally socked in. But a ride on the B.R.P. is always nice, and never the same. We'll be back next summer - South to North, this time.
