Sierra Ferrell will be bringing her quirky alt-country Americana honky-tonk songs to the Music Center's outdoor amphitheater on Saturday, August 22. Ferrell cut her teeth on the rail lines, truck stops, street corners, and dingy, dimly lit listening rooms all across the land. Belting out her old-time melodies, she draws the audience into a tapestry of forlorn, star-crossed love, longing, poverty, suffering and triumph, encompassing many facets of the human spirit and the complexities of emotion that come with it.
Opening the show: Drawing their influences from the rich musical heritage of the Blue Ridge mountains, Luke Morris and Madison Elmore grew up playing traditional Appalachian music. This songwriting, roots duo brings a unique sound that reflects the beauty of American music tradition.
Luke is a 19 year old multi-instrumentalist who plays mostly mandolin and guitar. He also is an accomplished songwriter and released his first album Further Down the Line, in 2018. He plays mandolin and sings with the bluegrass band ShadowGrass.
Madison Elmore is a 17 year old multi-instrumentalist, with her main instruments being fiddle, guitar, and piano. She enjoys songwriting as well. Madison has had the opportunity to perform at venues such as the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Station Inn.
Tickets are $20, and are only available at the gates the night of the show. Children 12 and younger are admitted for free.
Since 2013, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation has supported musical programming at the Blue Ridge Music Center to help preserve the cultural heritage of the mountains.
