Five locations will donate 10 percent of sales on September 12 to the nonprofit
(North Carolina) – Cooler days and longer nights signal that autumn is approaching, and now is the time to stock up for campouts, hikes, and excursions, including adventures along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mast General Store makes it easy for shoppers to prepare for fall outdoor adventures while helping to protect our gorgeous mountain landscape. On Saturday, September 12, five Mast General Stores (Asheville, Boone, Hendersonville, and the Valle Crucis Main Store & Annex) will donate 10 percent of sales to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation as part of their annual Friends’ Day.
“We are so grateful for the support that Mast General Stores provide to the Foundation and other local groups that are working to protect and enhance our region’s beautiful places,” said Carolyn Ward, chief executive officer of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. Ward and other Foundation staff and board members will greet guests at each location to share details on how the nonprofit enhances visitor experiences through historic preservation, environmental conservation, and educational outreach.
“The Blue Ridge Parkway is a key attraction in Western North Carolina,” said Fred Martin, president of the Mast Store. “Not only is it an escape from the everyday for our locals; it is a place visited by travelers from around the world because of its scenic overlooks, cultural connections, and many options for hiking and exploring. It is important for us, for everyone, to do what we can to take care of this national treasure.”
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation works with the National Park Service to enhance the visitor experience along the 469-miles scenic route. Through fundraising efforts, the sale of Blue Ridge Parkway specialty plates, and donations from dedicated members, the Foundation underwrites many of the improvement projects along the roadway, including trail improvements, preservation of historic sites, and new amenities.
