General Description and Purpose
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, a 501(c)(3), is seeking a qualified Staff Accountant to work with the Senior Finance Director and a motivated team dedicated to safeguarding the future of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This person must be detail oriented and will assist in completing all bookkeeping functions from source documentation to financial reports. Responsibilities include recording transactions, maintaining financial records, and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations of the office. This is a new position.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with Senior Finance Director to:
- Maintain a comprehensive detailed bookkeeping system including recording deposits, processing disbursements and reconciling credit card transactions
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in timely fashion
- Document, train and enforce policies and procedures to achieve internal controls and safeguard the assets of the Foundation
- Assist with preparation of schedules and supporting documentation for the audit
- Assist with fiscal year-end procedures including processing of 1099s
- Assist Senior Finance Director in producing clear and accurate reports for management and board of trustees
- Coordinate with development team to reconcile donations/deposits monthly
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience and/or training preferred
- Knowledge and experience in bookkeeping practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel and proven track record in use
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements in a nonprofit environment
- Experience with nonprofit organizations or similar work environment
- 3 years of accounting experience; grant accounting experience desired
- Enthusiasm for the mission-driven work of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with dedicated team
- Exceptional planning, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments
Starting Salary: $38,000-$45,000
