Preorder Update

We have great news! Blue Ridge Parkway license plate preorders were sent out in February and March of 2024. Other than motorcycle applications, all plate preorders have been processed at this time (4/29/24). If you have NOT received your plate, please see the commonly asked questions at the bottom of this page.

To help spread the word about the new tag, we’d love to feature a photo of you with your Parkway plate through our website, enewsletter, and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram). Once you receive yours, please snap a picture with your plate. You can email us the image or post it on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #newBRPplate so we can reshare it! When you share an image by April 1, you’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets to a Blue Ridge Music Center concert and more Parkway goodies.

Keep an eye on your mailbox for the beautiful new tag from the DMV and a small token of appreciation from us as a thanks for your patience and support.

As a reminder, your shipment from the DMV will include the plates, a set of year and month decals, and a new vehicle registration card.

Preorder questions

Why did I receive a bill from the DMV? Certain applicants will receive a bill from DMV. Unfortunately, it is possible that the bill may arrive before the plate. Why will DMV send a bill?
The applicant had a multi-year vehicle registration. The special plate fee payment submitted with the application was applied to the current year of the multi-year registration. An invoice is created for the additional year(s). The same is true for your annual $10 personalize plate fee.

The applicant’s vehicle registration was due to expire within 90 days. As a courtesy, the DMV renewed the vehicle registration at the time they issued the new plates. This allowed a full year, plus a little extra, before paying the next annual special plate fee. And, your vehicle registration is good for another year!

Why did I receive a refund from the DMV? Personalization request was not available. DMV will refund the $10 personalization fee to the applicant and assign a standard production number to their new plate.

License Plate number transfer request could not be processed. The number is too long or belongs to an existing or preauthorized plate series. Specialty plates can only have six digits.

The application could not be processed. The full payment submitted will be refunded.

What should I do if I’ve moved? Applicants with a new address must visit a DMV office, call at (804) 497-7100 or use online services to update their address. When the plate is ready, it will be mailed to the address on the applicant's vehicle record in the DMV’s system.

I preordered a motorcycle plate, where is it? BRPF motorcycle specialty plates are continuing to be processed by the DMV. These will take a bit longer to make it to registrants. Thanks for your patience!

Is the plate listed on the DMV website? The plate is now available to the public and is listed on the DMV website. Plates can be ordered online or in person at DMV customer service centers.

I need further assistance! Please contact the DMV at 1(804) 497-7100. You will receive the most complete service if you contact this customer service line instead of visiting an in-person facility. If you still have questions, contact us at info@brpfoundation.org. Thanks!
